Long Term Benefits
Nature and transformation were the sources of inspiration when developing the OFELIA collection. The challenge was to create a collection mostly in white that was strong enough to stand out on its own. And thanks to tactile details such as pleats and jacquards our designers succeeded. Irregular, overlapping patterns in various materials such as wool, silk and polyester reflect the untamed, yet fragile and everchanging aspects of nature. All ending up in a contemporary collection best described as light, crisp, cool, fresh and tender.
"I live at the east coast of Denmark. It was here, at the shores of Snekkersten, I found inspiration when designing my part of the OFELIA collection. Nature is shaped slowly and continuously, and still it's fragile. Like the waves - so relentless, yet fleeting. The materials and the design of the collection have its roots in the Nordic light, the sand on the beach, the waves, the driftwood and the plants. In a world that goes faster day by day, I hope this collection will bring a sense of thoughtfulness and serenity to your home."
Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibres. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilisers and water.
